Any calcium salt taken alongside fluoride binds it in the lumen and reduces uptake, and carbonate salts add a pH effect on top. Milk has the same effect for the same reason. Separating the two by a couple of hours is the standard workaround.
Magnesium behaves like calcium toward fluoride, forming a poorly absorbed complex when the two meet in the gut. The effect is smaller than with calcium but runs the same direction. Timing matters more than dose here.
Hydroxyapatite is a calcium phosphate, and fluoride substitutes into that lattice in place of a hydroxyl group. Without adequate phosphate and calcium there is no lattice for fluoride to enter. The mineral trio is structural rather than additive.

Fluoride and iodine are both halogens, and the claim that fluoride displaces iodine at the thyroid circulates widely. The human evidence for a meaningful effect at ordinary intakes is weak and inconsistent, and shared chemical group membership is not itself a mechanism. Strontium substitutes for calcium in the apatite lattice while fluoride substitutes for hydroxyl, so both alter the crystal without occupying the same site. Boron appears alongside fluoride in some bone support formulas because both are trace elements associated with mineral tissue. The rationale is compositional convention rather than a demonstrated interaction between them. Read it as formulation practice.
