Where Germanium comes from.

Nobody digs for germanium on purpose. It comes out as a leftover from zinc smelting and from the ash of certain coals, gets cleaned up as a gas and turned into a white oxide powder, and that oxide is then chemically joined to a carbon chain to make the organic form used in supplements. How much of the plain inorganic oxide is left behind is the number worth asking about.
