Steroidal glycoalkaloids of the solanine and solasonine type adsorb readily onto activated charcoal in the gut lumen. Anyone taking charcoal alongside a nightshade preparation will absorb less of the plant's alkaloid load, and less of anything else swallowed in the same window. This is an interference, not a pairing to design around.
Solanaceous glycoalkaloids bind 3-beta-hydroxy sterols and form insoluble complexes, which is the basis of their membrane-disrupting behaviour. Free plant sterols in the same meal can tie up part of the alkaloid fraction before it reaches the membrane. The effect is chemical rather than clinical and has not been quantified in people.
Solanine-type glycoalkaloids inhibit acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. Huperzine A is a deliberate cholinesterase inhibitor. Stacking the two pushes in the same direction on the same enzyme, which is a reason to keep them apart rather than combine them.
Dried bittersweet nightshade stem appears in older European herbal respiratory and skin infusions, usually alongside demulcent and sweetening herbs such as licorice. The pairing is formulation convention and palatability, not a demonstrated interaction. No controlled work supports a combined effect.
