Ge-132 is a bis-carboxyethyl germanium sesquioxide, structurally analogous to the silsesquioxanes formed by silicon. The two elements sit in the same periodic group and behave similarly in condensation and hydrolysis chemistry, which is why analytical methods for one often carry over to the other. No human study has measured the two taken together, so this is a chemical relationship and not a demonstrated nutritional one.
Ascorbate is a strong aqueous reducing agent and organogermanium sesquioxides are redox-active in solution. In a formulation the two share the same aqueous redox environment, so ascorbate can alter the oxidation state distribution of trace metal and metalloid species around it. This is bench chemistry rather than a measured human interaction, and no combination trial supports an added effect in people.

Germanium doesn't act as a cofactor in any known human enzyme and there's no established dietary requirement for it, so it isn't classed as an essential mineral the way iron, zinc and selenium are.
Ge-132 is bis(2-carboxyethylgermanium) sesquioxide, a water-soluble organogermanium compound in which the germanium atom is bonded to carbon. That carbon bond makes it chemically distinct from inorganic germanium salts such as germanium dioxide, which do not have one.
In water, the sesquioxide structure hydrolyses toward the matching trihydroxy-germyl propanoic acid monomer, so what is actually dissolved is not the same species as the dry powder you started with.
Germanium species that get absorbed are cleared largely by kidney filtration, since they are small, water-soluble and do not bind much to protein.
Where Organic Germanium (Ge-132) comes from.
It starts as germanium oxide left over from zinc and coal processing, then chemists attach it to a small organic acid and dry the result into a white powder. There is no plant or animal step anywhere in the route.
Chemically synthesised. The molecule is identical to the one a plant or an animal makes, and building it deliberately means a known purity, a fixed dose and no crop contaminants. For several nutrients this is the only route that reaches a usable amount.
Elemental germanium enters commerce mostly as the dioxide recovered from zinc ore residues and coal fly ash, and that oxide is the starting material for organogermanium chemistry.
The dioxide is reduced to trichlorogermane or a related germanium hydride species, which supplies the reactive germanium to carbon bond forming centre.
The germanium hydride adds across the double bond of acrylic acid, forming the carboxyethyl germanium linkage that defines the organic form.
Hydrolysis followed by condensation gives the sesquioxide network, which is then washed and crystallised.
The material is dried to a white crystalline powder for encapsulation or tableting.
