Bael, especially the unripe fruit, carries a meaningful tannin load. Tannins bind non-heme iron in the intestine and reduce how much crosses the mucosa. Separating an iron dose from bael by two hours removes the overlap. This is a timing question, not a reason to avoid either one.
Ascorbic acid keeps iron in the reduced ferrous state and forms a soluble complex with it, which limits how much the tannins in bael can lock up. Taken in the same meal, it partly offsets the astringent load. The effect is on iron uptake, not on bael itself.
Psyllium mucilage and bael pectin both hydrate into a gel that raises luminal viscosity. Stacking them raises the fibre load faster than most people expect, so water intake has to rise with it. Start low or the result is bloating rather than comfort.
The pectin fraction of bael reaches the colon undigested and is fermented by saccharolytic bacteria to short-chain fatty acids. Pairing it with a live culture supplies substrate alongside organisms. Whether any individual strain uses this particular pectin has not been mapped.
