Shortened colonic transit means less sodium, potassium and water get reabsorbed. Replacing them alongside any stimulant purgative is standard practice. This is damage limitation rather than a benefit pairing.
Colonic secretion of potassium continues while reabsorption time falls, so purgative use pushes potassium out preferentially. Anyone on a diuretic or a cardiac glycoside is already exposed on this axis and should not add a stimulant purgative on top. The relevant point is the loss, not a synergy.
Ginger is added to purgative formulas in classical practice as an anupana to reduce griping and nausea. The rationale is traditional formulation logic rather than measured pharmacology. No trial has tested the pair.
Marshmallow polysaccharide hydrates into a demulcent gel that coats the gut lining. Against a direct mucosal irritant, that physical barrier is the plausible offset. The mechanism is sound but the pairing has not been tested.
