Belleric myrobalan is tannin dense, and hydrolysable tannins form insoluble complexes with ferric iron before it can be taken up. Taking a tannin rich fruit extract at the same time as an iron supplement lowers how much iron is absorbed. Separating the two by a couple of hours is the practical answer.
Ascorbic acid reduces ferric iron to ferrous and partly offsets the inhibitory effect of dietary tannins on non heme iron uptake. In Triphala the amla component supplies ascorbate alongside the bellirica tannins. This modifies the interaction, it does not remove it.
Hydrolysable tannins bind divalent cations broadly, and zinc absorption drops in the presence of high tannin loads. Anyone using a tannin rich fruit powder daily alongside a mineral supplement should stagger the timing. The effect is on absorption, not on the mineral already in the body.
Hydrolysable and condensed tannins form complexes with proline rich and globular proteins, which is what produces the astringent mouthfeel. Mixing a tannin heavy fruit powder into a protein shake reduces free tannin and can cause visible haze. It is a formulation problem before it is a nutrition one.
Belleric myrobalan fruit is traditionally used for bowel regularity and psyllium is a well characterised bulking fibre. Combining them may add to the effect on stool frequency, though the combination has not been tested directly. Starting low is sensible.
The large ellagitannins in Terminalia fruits are not absorbed intact. Gut bacteria hydrolyse them to ellagic acid and then to urolithins, and only some people carry the microbial capacity to complete that step. This is why response to ellagitannin rich botanicals varies so widely between individuals.
Triphala components and turmeric appear together across many traditional and modern blends. Both are polyphenol rich and heavily conjugated after absorption. No specific pharmacokinetic interaction between them has been characterised, so the pairing is convention.

Terminalia bellirica fruit is dominated by tannins, along with gallic acid and ellagic acid.
These tannins are too large to absorb whole and get broken down by gut bacteria into ellagic acid and then into other compounds called urolithins.
Dietary tannins reduce how well you absorb non-heme iron by forming insoluble complexes with it in the gut.
Gallic acid, a main marker compound in the fruit, gets absorbed quickly and heavily processed by the body, so the free form found in blood is low and short-lived.
Where Belleric myrobalan comes from.
This is the dried fruit of a large South Asian tree, known in Ayurveda as bibhitaki. It is very high in tannins, which is why it tastes drying and why it can interfere with iron and zinc if taken at the same time.
