It suits people who use traditional balsamic resins on the skin or in steam inhalation. Anyone with a known balsam sensitivity will want to patch test before regular use.

No oral daily amount is on record, and the established uses are topical or inhaled rather than taken by mouth. Follow the directions on the preparation you have.
Time to feel it
As a steam inhalation the aroma arrives immediately. On skin the film sets as the alcohol flashes off, inside a minute or two.

Glycine availability is what allows that route to keep pace when benzoate intake is repeated. This is a metabolic dependency rather than a performance claim, and it matters most for people already taking benzoate-containing preparations.

Benzoic acid is only active against microbes in its undissociated form, so the fraction that works falls as the surrounding pH rises. Benzoin is a resin tapped from Styrax trees, made mostly of benzoic acid, cinnamic acid and related compounds, with small amounts giving it its scent.

Free benzoic acid is a well-established antimicrobial. It works in acidic conditions, where the molecule crosses microbial membranes and lowers the pH inside the cell.

It is tree sap. You cut the bark, the tree seals the wound with a sticky resin, and once that hardens someone scrapes it off and grades it by hand.
