When a label lists a bovine-derived ingredient without saying which one, and also lists lactoferrin, the two may draw on the same milk fraction. Stacking a colostrum or whey fraction with isolated lactoferrin can duplicate the same protein. The practical point is to ask the manufacturer what the unspecified bovine material actually is. This is a labelling issue, not a biochemical interaction.
Bovine colostrum, whey protein fractions and milk-derived immunoglobulin concentrates all come from the same animal and often the same processing stream. An undeclared bovine ingredient alongside a declared colostrum raises the chance of overlap. It also matters for anyone avoiding dairy proteins, who cannot make that call from the label as written. Ask what the source tissue is.
If the unspecified bovine material is hide-derived collagen or gelatin, it is nutritionally an amino acid source dominated by glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. Bone-sourced bovine ingredients such as microcrystalline hydroxyapatite bring their own calcium and phosphorus. Heme iron from animal tissue uses its own uptake mechanism and is not blocked by phytate or polyphenols the way non-heme iron is.
