Lily bulb and dang gui are combined in long-standing decoction practice, not because a controlled trial compared the pair against either herb alone. The rationale is traditional category logic rather than a measured interaction. Anyone reading this should count it as historical formulation practice.
Glycyrrhiza appears in most classical formulas containing Lilium brownii, where it functions as a taste modifier and harmoniser. No controlled human comparison of the pairing exists. Licorice carries its own dose ceiling because of glycyrrhizin effects on potassium and blood pressure, so the pairing is not neutral at high intake.
The combination reflects formulation convention in traditional practice rather than a demonstrated pharmacological interaction. Schisandra lignans are known CYP450 modulators, which means the pairing is not inert with co-administered medicines. Read it as traditional rather than clinical.
Astragalus and lily bulb share a preparation route and a traditional use category. Their extracts are dominated by water-soluble polysaccharides in both cases. Nothing has been measured about the pair specifically.
Non-digestible storage polysaccharides from bulbs reach the colon largely intact, which is the same general behaviour that defines inulin. That makes an additive fermentable-substrate load plausible on chemistry grounds. It has not been measured for Lilium brownii specifically, and a larger combined fermentable load can mean more gas and bloating rather than more benefit.

The part used is the fleshy bulb scale, a starch-storage organ, so a water-based tea is mostly carbohydrates rather than aromatic or resinous compounds.
The known compounds in this bulb are storage carbohydrates, soap-like saponins and other plant compounds, with the carbohydrate making up most of a hot water extract.
A hot water tea pulls out the water-soluble sugars and compounds efficiently and leaves less water-soluble compounds behind, so a tea and an alcohol-based tincture of the same bulb end up chemically different.
A traditional processing step, frying with honey, adds sugars and triggers browning chemistry during heating, which changes both the taste and the compound profile compared with the plain dried bulb.
