Redwood bark and needle preparations are tannin-rich, and condensed tannins bind non-heme iron into complexes the intestine cannot take up. Anyone building iron status should separate a tannin-heavy infusion from an iron dose by a couple of hours. This is a general tannin effect described for bark and leaf infusions as a class, not a measurement made on redwood itself.

California Redwood + Vitamin CAscorbate keeps iron in the reduced ferrous state and limits tannin-iron complex formation, which is settled absorption chemistry.

Ascorbate reduces ferric iron to the ferrous form and competes with polyphenols for it, which partly offsets the binding that tannin-rich plant infusions cause. Taking vitamin C alongside food is the standard way to blunt that interference. The relationship is established for polyphenol-rich beverages generally and is applied here by class rather than measured on redwood.

This is coast redwood bark or needles, dried and either steeped, soaked in alcohol, or distilled for their aromatic oil. The three preparations are chemically quite different from each other, and none of them is standardised, so what you get depends heavily on the batch.
