Garlic and coriander seed powder were supplemented together and assessed against body mass index, lipid measures and blood pressure. The design does not separate what each contributed, so the pairing is what was tested, not either component alone. Both are ordinary culinary materials with long dietary histories, which keeps the combination unremarkable from a tolerability standpoint. Read it as a combination signal rather than proof of an additive mechanism.
Coriander seed carries fibre and polyphenol material that reaches the colon largely unabsorbed and is available to resident bacteria. A veterinary study administered dietary coriander seeds alongside Lactobacillus acidophilus. That work was in animals, so it grounds a plausible mechanism and nothing more. Whether the same substrate relationship operates at culinary intakes in people has not been measured.
Work on spice blends in high-fat meals has looked at mixtures containing coriander alongside turmeric and others, measuring postprandial cytokine secretion. That is a blend effect, not attribution to any single spice. Coriander and turmeric are near-universal partners in curry powders, so the pairing is culinary practice with a plausible shared polyphenol rationale.
Coriander seed and ginger are both used traditionally for digestive comfort after meals, and both turn up in the spice blends used in postprandial meal studies. Any effect measured in those studies belongs to the blend, not to either spice individually. The pairing is a sensible culinary one with a coherent traditional rationale.
Piperine inhibits intestinal and hepatic metabolising enzymes, which raises systemic exposure to several co-administered plant compounds. Whether coriander's specific polyphenols benefit from this has not been measured. Anyone taking piperine-containing products alongside prescription medicines should know it can raise drug exposure too.
Coriander seed oil is unusual among culinary seeds for its high petroselinic acid content, a monounsaturated fatty acid with the double bond at position six. Fish oil supplies long-chain omega-3 fatty acids from a different biosynthetic route entirely. There is no competition between them and no established interaction, so this is a compositional observation rather than a demonstrated synergy.

Coriander seed oil is mostly one aromatic compound, linalool, while the leaf, sold as cilantro, has a completely different aroma profile built on different aldehyde compounds, which is why the two taste nothing alike despite coming from the same plant.
Coriander seed oil stands out for a specific monounsaturated fatty acid with its double bond positioned differently than the oleic acid found in most seed oils.
Whole coriander seed carries fiber and polyphenols that mostly pass through the small intestine unabsorbed and reach the colon, where resident bacteria can act on them, the same general behavior seen with plant fiber and polyphenols generally, nothing specific to this seed.

Where Coriander comes from.
Comes from the coriander plant. The seeds and the leaves are chemically different enough that they are really two separate ingredients, and a product made from one tells you nothing about the other.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
An annual of the carrot family grown worldwide, with major seed production in India, Eastern Europe, Morocco and Canada. Seed and leaf come from the same plant but are different commodities with different chemistry.
Seed is dried and either sold whole, milled to powder, steam-distilled for essential oil, or pressed for fixed oil. Each route captures a different fraction of the plant.
Where an extract is standardised it is usually to volatile oil content or to linalool for the distilled oil. Seed powder used in dietary studies is generally not standardised at all.
