Ascorbate taken in the same meal keeps more of that iron in the absorbable ferrous form. The interaction is a general plant-food one, well described and not specific to this species. It applies to the meal, not to iron status weeks later.
Polyphenol-rich leaf preparations form insoluble complexes with non-heme iron, which lowers what is available for uptake in the same meal. Anyone taking an iron supplement for low iron status has reason to separate it from a concentrated leaf preparation. The direction is interference.
