What Lo Han is, and what it does.

- It suits anyone cutting sugar who still wants sweet coffee, baking or shakes. If the long finish of a high-potency sweetener bothers you, blends soften it.

Why these belong in the same formula. Each row says what the basis is, from settled biochemistry through to a trial that measured the pair.
Mogrosides and steviol glycosides both act on the same sweet receptor but differ in onset and lingering aftertaste. Blending them lets a formulator cut the total amount of each and reduce the licorice-like tail that stevia alone leaves. This is a taste-engineering rationale, not a physiological one.
Mogroside V is intensely sweet at tiny weights, so it cannot fill the volume that sugar occupies in a recipe. Erythritol provides that bulk plus a cooling mouthfeel while contributing almost no metabolisable energy. Most products sold as monk fruit sweetener are largely erythritol by weight, which is the single most misread thing on those labels.
Inulin supplies bulk and a faint sweetness without the cooling effect erythritol brings, which suits baking better in some applications. Because it is a fermentable fibre, it also brings gas and bloating at higher intakes in sensitive people. The trade-off is texture and fibre content against gastrointestinal tolerance.
FOS adds bulk and mild sweetness while serving as a fermentation substrate for colonic bacteria. Combined with monk fruit extract it produces a sweetener with a fibre claim attached. As with inulin, the fermentation that gives it the fibre character is also what causes gas at higher doses.
Sweetness suppresses the perception of bitterness, which is why caffeinated beverages are sweetened at all. Monk fruit extract does that without adding sugar. The interaction is at the level of taste perception, and nothing here changes what caffeine does in the body.
Protein powders carry substantial bitterness and astringency that need masking, and monk fruit extract delivers that at negligible weight. It is chosen over sucralose in some formulas for label reasons rather than functional ones. This is a flavour system decision.

Where Lo Han comes from.
Monk fruit is a small melon relative grown in one part of southern China. It gets dried, extracted, and what you buy is really a mogroside percentage, not a fruit.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
A perennial vine in the Cucurbitaceae, cultivated almost entirely in Guangxi province in southern China, where the growing conditions and the propagation stock are both concentrated. The fruit is known as luo han guo.
Fruit is dried in kilns after harvest to deactivate the enzymes responsible for the fresh fruit's off-flavour. This step is what makes a clean-tasting extract possible.
Dried fruit is extracted, then filtered and passed through resin to separate the mogroside fraction from pigments and other soluble solids.
Mogrosides are concentrated to the target percentage. Removing the brown pigment fraction is the main technical challenge and the reason grades differ visibly in colour.
The declared grade is a mogroside V percentage. Total mogroside content is a different figure and the two are sometimes conflated on specification sheets.
