Magnolia bark is the material commonly sold in supplement channels and carries a different constituent profile, mainly magnolol and honokiol. Mint appears alongside cocklebur in the traditional formula, contributing menthol and its cooling sensory effect on nasal airflow perception. Menthol changes the sensation of airflow through TRPM8 activation without changing measured airway calibre. The pairing is convention with a clear sensory rationale.
Alpha-methylene lactones react with cysteine thiols, and glutathione is the body's main scavenger for exactly that chemistry. NAC supplies the cysteine that limits glutathione synthesis.
