The verdict
Verified by IngredientMD
For people who titrate magnesium and want the gentlest, cleanest form.

A clean, gentle magnesium done without the usual shortcuts. 120 mg of elemental magnesium as true bisglycinate, the chelated form that tends to sit easiest on the stomach, in a capsule that is basically just the mineral. No magnesium stearate, no fillers, hypoallergenic. The one thing to know: at 120 mg a capsule, you dose up to your target rather than getting it all in one.

How we verify

The brand submits the formula. We read the supplement facts panel and weigh dose, form and synergy against the clinical evidence. Labs test. IngredientMD verifies. The fee pays for review time, never for the outcome.

The same mineral, carried differently.

What each form is, and where it fits in a formula. Measured findings carry the study that reported them.

  • Magnesium bisglycinate

Magnesium chelated to two molecules of the amino acid glycine, rather than carried as a mineral salt.

    Fits
evening and sleep-positioned formulas, and pregnancy formulas aimed at leg cramps, which is where its trials sit
    Trade-off
the measured effects are small (Cohen d of 0.2 for insomnia severity at week 4), and the glycine share of the molecule leaves less elemental magnesium per capsule than a mineral salt

In a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial in 155 adults aged 18 to 65 reporting poor sleep quality, magnesium bisglycinate at 250 mg elemental magnesium daily reduced Insomnia Severity Index scores from baseline to week 4 by 3.9 points (95 per cent CI 5.8 to 2.0) against 2.3 points (95 per cent CI 4.1 to 0.4) on placebo (p = 0.049), an effect the authors describe as small (Cohen d 0.2), with no significant differences in other psychological outcomes. In a double-blind randomised placebo-controlled trial in 86 pregnant women at 14 to 34 weeks gestation with leg cramps at least twice weekly, magnesium bisglycinate chelate at 300 mg daily for four weeks achieved a 50 per cent reduction in cramp frequency in 86.0 per cent against 60.5 per cent on placebo (P = 0.007), with no significant between-group difference in nausea or diarrhoea.
