Suits people who like a traditional astringent tea for a loose, unsettled gut, or as a gargle. Human trials are scarce, so the case rests on long use and lab work.
How much to take
No dose figure is on record. Traditional use is an infusion of the dried flowering tops, and because water and alcohol pull different constituents, the preparation shapes what you get.

Agrimony and lemon balm are both members of the classic European infusion tradition and turn up in the same blends. The published pairing work is in animals and looked at growth and antioxidant markers, not human outcomes. Those are markers, not clinical endpoints. The pairing is formulation convention rather than a demonstrated human benefit.

Agrimony + ChamomileShared traditional use as a mild aqueous infusion for digestive comfort. Both are tannin- and flavonoid-bearing aerial-part herbs.

Chamomile and agrimony show up in the same digestive tea blends across European herbal practice. Both are prepared as water infusions of the aerial parts, so they extract under identical conditions and blend without formulation conflict. The grounding here is traditional and botanical, not clinical. No controlled human comparison of the pair exists.

Agrimony + IronAgrimony is a tannin-rich herb, and hydrolysable and condensed tannins bind non-heme iron in the gut lumen.

Polyphenolic tannins form insoluble complexes with ferric and ferrous iron in the stomach and upper small intestine, which lowers the fraction of non-heme iron available for absorption. This is the same effect documented for tea and other tannin-heavy infusions. Anyone taking an iron supplement is usually advised to separate it from tannin-rich drinks by a couple of hours. The interaction is mechanistic and dose-dependent, not a reason to avoid either one.

Agrimony + Vitamin CAscorbate counteracts tannin-mediated iron binding by holding iron in the reduced ferrous state.

Vitamin C reduces ferric iron to ferrous and forms a soluble chelate that resists precipitation by polyphenols. Taken alongside a tannin-containing herb such as agrimony, it partly offsets the drop in non-heme iron uptake. The size of the offset depends on the ratio of ascorbate to polyphenol. This is textbook mineral chemistry rather than a trial finding for agrimony specifically.

Agrimony + ZincTannins and other plant polyphenols also complex divalent zinc in the gut lumen.

Zinc, like iron, is a divalent cation that polyphenols can bind before absorption. The effect is smaller than for iron but follows the same chemistry. Separating a zinc supplement from a strong agrimony infusion by an hour or two removes the concern. This is a general tannin property rather than something measured for agrimony alone.

Agrimony + Digestive EnzymesTannins are protein-binding and can complex with proteinaceous enzyme preparations.

Hydrolysable tannins bind proteins through hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction, which is why tannin-rich preparations taste astringent. A supplemental protease or lipase taken in the same swallow as a strong tannin infusion can lose some activity to that binding. Taking them apart avoids the issue. The concern is in-vitro chemistry applied forward, not a measured clinical loss.

Agrimony + ProbioticsAn animal study of a compound agrimony preparation described shifts in gut Lactobacillus populations.

Work in mice on a compound agrimony formula reported changes in gut Lactobacillus alongside suppression of Candida colonisation. That is an animal model and a microbial endpoint, not a human outcome. Plant polyphenols in general are metabolised by gut bacteria and can in turn shift community composition, so a two-way relationship with a live culture is plausible. Read it as mechanistic rather than clinical.

Agrimony + QuercetinAgrimony aerial parts carry flavonol glycosides including quercetin derivatives, so the two share a polyphenol pool.

Quercetin glycosides are among the characterised flavonoids in Agrimonia species, which means a quercetin supplement adds to the same class already present. Both are handled by the same intestinal and hepatic conjugation enzymes, so combining them raises the substrate load on that pathway. The practical result is overlapping rather than novel chemistry. No human study has tested the combination.
