Cherimoya pulp carries a meaningful amount of vitamin C, and ascorbate reduces ferric iron to the ferrous form and holds it soluble through the duodenum. Eaten with a plant iron source, that raises the absorbed fraction. Heat processing and long storage cut the ascorbate, so a cooked or long-shelf product will not do the same job as fresh fruit.
