Tartar and colleagues reported better performance on cognitive tasks and shifts in subjective energy with the combination than with placebo, so the effect belongs to the blend and not to methylliberine by itself. Because both act on the same adenosine-receptor target, the total stimulant load of a formula matters more than either amount read alone.
L-tyrosine feeds the pathway that makes dopamine and noradrenaline, which is the same signalling system a purine alkaloid indirectly pushes on. The pairing is common in pre-workout and focus blends. No trial has measured methylliberine with tyrosine, so this is mechanism-level reasoning only.
Alpha-GPC supplies choline for acetylcholine synthesis, a different arm of attention signalling from adenosine blockade. Blends put the two together on the assumption that separate pathways add rather than overlap. That assumption has not been tested with methylliberine.
Beta-alanine works on muscle carnosine over weeks while methylliberine acts acutely, so the two occupy different time scales in the same scoop. Nothing in the methylliberine literature examines them together. The pairing is a product-design convention worth naming as such.
Melatonin is taken to shorten time to sleep onset, and a purine alkaloid taken late in the day works against that by blunting adenosine signalling. Methylliberine is a methylated purine alkaloid of the methylurate family, closely related in structure to theacrine and more distantly to caffeine, and it occurs naturally in Coffea and Camellia species.
The proposed action of methylliberine is antagonism at adenosine receptors, the same target class through which caffeine reduces the sensation of accumulated fatigue signalling; the receptor pharmacology of the purine class is settled even though methylliberine's own binding profile is thinly characterised.
