Inulin does the same through a different chain chemistry, fructose rather than galactose and mannose, so colonic bacteria see two substrates instead of one. The practical caution is that fermentable load stacks too, and gas and bloating scale with total dose rather than with either source alone. Start low when both are in the same formula.
