Mesquite pod flour carries soluble galactomannan-type fibre and oligosaccharides that escape small-intestinal digestion. Inulin does the same through a different chain chemistry, fructose rather than galactose and mannose, so colonic bacteria see two substrates instead of one. The practical caution is that fermentable load stacks too, and gas and bloating scale with total dose rather than with either source alone. Start low when both are in the same formula.
Psyllium forms a gel that slows gastric emptying and diffusion of small solutes toward the brush border. Mesquite's soluble fraction thickens chyme by the same mechanism, so the two combine on viscosity rather than on separate targets. Because viscosity also slows the movement of anything dissolved in the same meal, medication and mineral timing matters more when both are present.
Short-chain fatty acid production from mesquite fibre depends entirely on the colonic organisms available to do the work. Mesquite pod flour is naturally sweet from free fructose and sucrose and has a malt-like flavour, so it is used to round out protein powders without added sweetener.
