Chrysanthemum flower preparations contain apigenin glycosides among their main flavones. Taking isolated apigenin alongside the flower raises total flavone exposure rather than adding a second mechanism. This is compositional overlap, not a demonstrated clinical additive effect.
The flower's flavone fraction is dominated by luteolin and apigenin derivatives. Pairing with purified luteolin increases exposure to the same class of molecule. Read it as compositional rather than as evidence of a combined outcome in people.
Ascorbate reduces polyphenol radicals back toward their parent form in vitro, which extends how long the polyphenol stays chemically active in a mixture. This is well described bench chemistry for flavonoids as a class. Whether it changes anything measurable after a flower infusion is swallowed has not been shown.

Chrysanthemum flowers are a source of a few named flavonoids and chlorogenic acid compounds, and these are the markers used to standardize batches of the raw material.
Most of these flavonoid compounds get broken down by gut enzymes and bacteria before absorption, then modified further in the gut wall and liver, so what circulates in the blood is mostly a conjugated form rather than the original plant compound.
The phenolic compounds in mum flower can bind non-heme iron in the gut and reduce how much is absorbed from the same meal, but since this happens before absorption, spacing them out in time avoids it.
Where Mum comes from.
It is a dried flower. You either brew it, take a concentrated powder made from it, or use the distilled aromatic oil, and those three are not the same thing.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
