Licorice root is added to most classical decoctions to soften bitterness and to moderate what the tradition regards as harsh herbs. Licorice carries its own pharmacology, including glycyrrhizin effects on potassium and blood pressure with prolonged use at dose. That means the composition of a person's microbiota partly determines what they get from the herb, which is one reason botanical responses vary between people. Whether adding a specific probiotic strain changes that conversion has not been demonstrated for this herb.
Charcoal binds a wide range of organic compounds including plant glycosides and reduces how much of them is absorbed. Taking it near any botanical extract lowers the delivered dose of that extract. The interaction is general to charcoal and applies to essentially every orally taken active. Separating the two by several hours avoids it.
