Pluchea indica leaf is dominated by caffeoylquinic acids and flavonoids, which sit in the same one-electron redox cycle as ascorbate. Ascorbate can regenerate the oxidised phenoxyl radical back to the parent polyphenol, so the two persist longer together than either does alone in a test tube. This is measured chemistry in solution, not a demonstrated outcome in people. Formulators often use it as a stabiliser rationale rather than a benefit claim.
Tocopherols work in the lipid phase, and the caffeoylquinic acids in Pluchea work in the water phase. Pairing them covers both compartments of an emulsion or a cell membrane boundary, which is why phenolic extracts and tocopherols are routinely combined in oxidation-prone formats. The interaction is a stability argument for the product, not a measured effect in a person.
Polyphenol-rich leaf infusions bind non-heme iron in the gut lumen and lower how much of it is taken up. Pluchea is drunk as a tea in Southeast Asia and carries the chemistry that does this. Anyone using an iron supplement for low iron status is better off spacing the two by a couple of hours. This is a direction-of-effect statement about absorption, not a claim about anyone's blood values.
The same catechol and galloyl groups that bind iron also complex zinc and copper at gut pH. The effect is smaller than with iron but runs in the same direction. Separating a mineral dose from a strong polyphenol infusion by two hours removes the question entirely.
Both are polyphenol-heavy plant infusions and their mineral-binding and redox behaviour stacks rather than cancels. That matters most as a total-polyphenol consideration in a formula, since the mineral-binding downside also adds up. No human work has looked at the pair together.
Piperine slows glucuronidation and sulfation of several plant phenolics, which raises how much circulating parent compound survives first pass. Caffeoylquinic acids are heavily conjugated in the gut wall and liver, so the same handling is plausible here. Nobody has measured it for Pluchea specifically, so read it as mechanistic rather than clinical.
