Taken together the two supply the same class of molecule, so the sterol load in the gut lumen rises rather than changing in kind. Both compete with cholesterol for space in mixed micelles. This is compositional overlap, not a measured combination effect.
Saw palmetto berry extract and pumpkin seed extract are both fixed-oil extracts carrying free fatty acids and phytosterols, and they have been sold as a pair for decades in European practice. The overlap is compositional rather than complementary, so a combined product mostly raises total sterol and fatty acid intake. No trial in the candidate set for this page measured the two together, so this is a formulation pairing described at its own level.
The sterols, tocopherols and carotenoids in a pumpkin seed extract only cross the intestinal wall after they partition into bile-salt micelles, and that partitioning depends on fat being present in the same meal. A medium-chain triglyceride carrier supplies that lipid phase in a capsule that otherwise contains dry powder. This is why softgel and oil-suspension presentations exist. The mechanism is absorption, not added activity.
Whole and defatted pumpkin seed carry meaningful zinc, so a full-spectrum seed preparation and a zinc supplement contribute to the same pool. Solvent-purified sterol extracts strip most of the mineral out, which is why the overlap depends entirely on which preparation is in the capsule. Anyone stacking the two should regard total zinc intake as the number that matters.
Pumpkin seed is a magnesium-dense food, and seed-meal or full-spectrum preparations carry that magnesium through. A purified phytosterol extract does not. The practical point is that the label form decides whether there is any mineral contribution at all.

Lycopene is among the more sterol-sensitive carotenoids because it is highly lipophilic and depends heavily on micellar space. Sterol-rich extracts crowd it out of that space during the same meal. The interaction is directional and dose dependent rather than absolute.
Tocopherols travel the same micelle-to-chylomicron route as phytosterols, so a large sterol load can shift tocopherol uptake within a meal. Pumpkin seed oil also carries its own tocopherol fraction, which pulls in the opposite direction by adding to intake. Which way the net lands depends on the preparation and the dose, so the honest description is modulating rather than additive or competitive.
Cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil is mostly linoleic and oleic acid, so an oil-based product is itself a linoleic acid source. Stacking it with another linoleic-rich oil simply raises the same fatty acid. Purified sterol extracts contribute little of it.
A share of the sterol in seed oil sits as a fatty acid ester and has to be hydrolysed before it can enter micelles as free sterol. Pancreatic lipase and cholesterol esterase do that work, and a lipase-containing enzyme blend supplies more of the same activity. People with low pancreatic output are the ones for whom this matters most. The effect is on liberation, not on the sterol's behaviour once free.
No bile salts means no mixed micelles, and without micelles a fat-soluble sterol stays in the lumen. Supplemental bile acids are used where endogenous bile flow is low. This is a permissive step, so it helps only where the step is limiting.
