Cinnamyl esters and styrene in balsamic resins oxidise on exposure to air and light, which shifts colour and aroma over time. Tocopherol is the standard lipid-phase antioxidant used to slow that process in oil-based and resin-based products. The role is shelf stability, not a change in biological effect.
