Marshmallow root mucilage coats mucosal surfaces while caraway volatiles act on smooth muscle tone. The two mechanisms do not overlap, which is why the combination appears in traditional digestive formulas. Support here is traditional use rather than clinical measurement.
Psyllium adds viscous bulk that changes transit, and caraway volatiles act on the muscle that moves that bulk. Viscous fibre can also slow the release of a co-administered lipophilic oil from the gut lumen, so timing matters in a combined product. No study has measured the pair.
Carvone and limonene inhibit a range of bacteria in vitro, including species used as probiotics. Whether a dietary dose of caraway oil affects viable counts of a co-ingested probiotic in the human gut has not been measured. The interaction is worth flagging at the formulation stage and should be read as in vitro plausibility.

Press caraway fruit for its oil and you get mostly two things, S-carvone and R-limonene, in roughly comparable proportions. The exact split shifts with the plant type and when it was picked.
Both of those are oil-loving monoterpenes that barely dissolve in water and head straight into fat. That's why caraway comes as an oil, an oleoresin or whole seed rather than a water extract.
Whole or ground seed brings fibre and fixed oil along with the aromatic part. A distilled oil brings none of that, so the two aren't swaps for each other nutritionally.
Your liver runs limonene through its cytochrome P450 enzymes into perillyl alcohol and related metabolites, then tags them for excretion. That's the usual exit route for monoterpenes from food.
Where Caraway Seed comes from.
Caraway comes from the dried fruit of a garden plant related to fennel and cumin. It is sold either as the seed itself or as an oil steamed out of crushed seed, and the two are not the same material. The oil is where the strong aroma sits.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
Biennial or annual caraway is harvested when the umbels are ripe; the commercial article is the dried schizocarp, called a seed in trade.
For oil, crushed fruit is steamed and the volatile fraction carried over with the vapour. For seed material, the fruit is cleaned, dried and either packed whole or milled.
The distillate separates into an aqueous layer and a lighter oil layer that is drawn off; residual water is removed by settling or drying agents.
Gas chromatography sets the carvone specification for the oil. Ground seed is more often specified on volatile-oil percentage than on a single constituent.
