Why these belong in the same formula. Each row says what the basis is, from settled biochemistry through to a trial that measured the pair.
Earthworm-derived enzyme preparations and nattokinase are the two ingredients most often marketed for fibrinolytic activity, and they are frequently combined in the same capsule. Where two ingredients push the same direction on clot handling, the combined effect on bleeding risk is the thing to watch, particularly alongside anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication. That caution matters more than any claimed additive benefit. Anyone on such medication should raise it with their prescriber before combining these.
EPA competes with arachidonic acid in eicosanoid production and reduces platelet aggregation, while earthworm protease preparations act on fibrin. Different mechanisms, same direction. The relevant point is cumulative effect on bleeding tendency rather than any joint benefit. This is a flag to combine cautiously, not a recommendation to pair.
Adding ginkgo to a fibrinolytic enzyme preparation stacks two ingredients that both lean toward reduced clot formation. Case reports of bleeding events with ginkgo alongside anticoagulants are what make this worth flagging. The combination has not been studied together. Read the pairing as a caution rather than a stack.
Aged and fresh garlic preparations both show antiplatelet activity, and the effect adds to anything else pointing the same way. With an earthworm protease preparation in the same regimen, the combined effect on bleeding is the question. There is no evidence of benefit from combining them. Note it, space it, and discuss with a prescriber if anticoagulants are involved.
Systemic enzyme products commonly combine several proteases, and bromelain is the usual plant-derived member of that group. They share the same formulation problem: gastric acid and pancreatic proteases degrade them unless the dose is enteric coated and taken away from food. Bromelain also has its own platelet effects, which adds to the bleeding caution. The combination is formulation convention.
The one human study in this candidate set gave an earthworm protein supplement together with a bacterial strain, so the two were assessed as a combination rather than separately. That design means the contribution of each component cannot be separated from the result. It supports combining them only in the sense that they have been given together. It does not establish that either drives the effect.
An added protease blend acts on the earthworm protein just as it acts on any other dietary protein, breaking it into peptides and amino acids. That is the opposite of what an enteric-coated enzyme product is trying to achieve. If the aim is intact enzyme delivery past the stomach, do not pair it with a broad protease blend. If the aim is amino acid nutrition, it makes no difference.
Vitamin K is the cofactor for gamma-carboxylation of clotting factors II, VII, IX and X. An earthworm enzyme preparation is marketed for the opposite side of clot handling. The two do not cancel in any measurable, predictable way, but the directions are opposed and worth naming in a formula that contains both. Neither should be assumed to offset the other.
Where earthworm material is used as a protein hydrolysate rather than as an enzyme preparation, it behaves as ordinary dietary protein. In that use it sits alongside collagen peptides without interaction, contributing amino acids. The two are not interchangeable in amino acid profile. Nothing about the pairing is special beyond both being hydrolysates.

Earthworm tissue contains a group of enzymes that break down fibrin, a clot-forming protein, in lab tests.
Any protein or enzyme you eat gets exposed to stomach acid and digestive enzymes, so if an enzyme is meant to reach the bloodstream intact it needs a protective coating and needs to be taken away from food.
Breaking earthworm tissue down with enzymes produces a mix of peptides and amino acids, which is a different ingredient from an intact enzyme preparation even though both might be labeled as earthworm-derived.
Earthworms absorb heavy metals from the soil they live in, so the metal content of the product depends entirely on where and how they were raised, making this a key quality control point.
Where Earthworm comes from.
Worms are farmed on a controlled bed, then kept on clean material for a while so their guts empty. They are blended, and the useful protein fraction is separated out and dried. Because worms soak up metals from whatever soil they live in, testing for lead and cadmium is not optional.
Made from an animal material. Species and tissue are the things worth knowing, and both belong on a label.
Species such as Eisenia fetida and Lumbricus rubellus are raised in controlled vermiculture beds rather than collected from open soil.
Worms are held on a clean substrate so that gut contents are voided before processing, which lowers soil and microbial carryover.
Tissue is homogenised and the protein fraction extracted in buffer, or digested with proteases where a hydrolysate is the target.
Chromatographic or membrane fractionation concentrates the protease fraction, and cadmium and lead are tested because earthworms accumulate soil metals.
The concentrate is freeze or spray dried, then enteric coated where intact enzyme delivery is intended.
