Emu oil carries a high proportion of oleic and linoleic acid, both of which oxidise on exposure to air, light and warmth. Tocopherols sit in the lipid phase and interrupt the chain reaction that produces rancidity. This is why nearly every emu oil product on the market lists a tocopherol on the label. The role is preservation of the oil, not a separate benefit for the user.
Fat-soluble vitamins dissolve into a triglyceride carrier and depend on that carrier for delivery. Emu oil is used as such a carrier because its fatty acid profile keeps retinyl esters in solution.
