The combination arm was included specifically because the two were expected to act through partly separate routes. Jambolan seed and gymnema are the two most commonly paired botanicals in Ayurvedic blood sugar formulas. Stacked, any glucose-lowering effect is additive rather than independent, which matters most for anyone already taking glucose-lowering medication. The practical instruction is to monitor rather than to assume nothing is happening.

Anthocyanins and ellagitannins from jambolan mostly reach the colon intact, where bacteria degrade them into smaller phenolic acids and urolithins.
