Selenium is the catalytic selenocysteine at the centre of the glutathione peroxidases that do that removal. Without adequate downstream peroxide handling, dismutase activity simply moves the oxidant one step along the chain.
Manganese porphyrins cycle between the trivalent and divalent metal states, and cellular thiols including glutathione are among the reductants that reset the cycle. Glutathione is also the cosubstrate for the peroxidases that clear the hydrogen peroxide produced. The relationship is chemistry described in cell and solution work, not a dosing recommendation.
Cationic manganese porphyrins catalyse the oxidation of ascorbate, and that reaction generates hydrogen peroxide rather than removing it. Depending on the local environment the same molecule can therefore behave as an antioxidant or as a peroxide generator. This is the single most important interaction to understand about the compound class and it argues against assuming an additive antioxidant effect.
Thiol compounds reduce higher-valent manganese centres and can compete for coordination at the metal. Adding a thiol donor alongside a redox-active metal complex changes which half of the catalytic cycle predominates. Regard this as chemistry, not as a tested pairing.
Dihydrolipoate is a strong cellular dithiol reductant and interacts with redox-active metal complexes in the same general way as glutathione. Whether it changes the behaviour of a manganese porphyrin specifically has not been established. The mechanism is plausible and unmeasured.
The catalytic centre of this compound class is a manganese ion held inside a porphyrin ring, and the metal is what makes the molecule redox active. The porphyrin ligand sets the metal's redox potential and its stability in solution. The mineral supplement and the metallodrug are not interchangeable in any direction.

BMX-001 is a cationic manganese porphyrin of the MnTnBuOE-2-PyP class, a synthetic small molecule designed to reproduce the catalytic chemistry of the manganese superoxide dismutase active site.
The catalytic cycle runs through Mn3+ and Mn2+: the trivalent form accepts an electron from superoxide and the divalent form gives one back, converting two superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen.
The positive charges on the pyridyl substituents are what carry the molecule across cell membranes and concentrate it in mitochondria, and they also tune the metal's redox potential toward the range where dismutation is efficient.
Hydrogen peroxide produced by any dismutase activity still requires catalase or a glutathione or thioredoxin peroxidase for removal, so a dismutase mimetic alone does not complete the detoxification chain.
Where Mnsod Mimetic Bmx-001 comes from.
It is made entirely in a lab. Chemists build a ring-shaped molecule, attach four charged side groups so it can get inside cells, and drop a manganese atom into the middle. That metal centre is what does the work.
Chemically synthesised. The molecule is identical to the one a plant or an animal makes, and building it deliberately means a known purity, a fixed dose and no crop contaminants. For several nutrients this is the only route that reaches a usable amount.
The macrocycle is built from pyrrole condensed with a pyridine carboxaldehyde, which is standard porphyrin synthesis chemistry. No biological feedstock is involved.
Condensation and oxidation give the free-base tetrapyridylporphyrin core.
Alkylation with a butoxyethyl group puts a permanent positive charge on each of the four pyridyl nitrogens, giving the pentacationic species and setting its lipophilicity.
Manganese is inserted into the macrocycle to give the Mn(III) complex, which is the catalytically active species.
