Buchu and uva ursi appear together in older urinary formulas, with buchu supplying volatile oil and uva ursi supplying arbutin. The pairing is convention rather than a tested combination, and no controlled work compares the pair against either alone. Both carry their own duration limits, so stacking them does not remove either caution.

The signature smell comes from a handful of volatile compounds, including sulfur-containing thiols and ketones. Because they're volatile, cut leaf loses potency if stored open or warm.
