What Butternut is, and what it does.

Does it work
It suits anyone building vitamin A intake from plants, and plant-based eaters generally. Eat it with some fat, because the carotenoids need dietary lipid to be absorbed.
How much to take
No supplement amount is on record. As food, a cupful of the cooked flesh with a little fat is where the carotenoid intake actually lands.

Nothing shifts on the day. Blood carotenoid levels climb over a few weeks of regular intake and are read on a panel.

Ascorbate reduces ferric iron to the ferrous form and keeps it soluble in the duodenum, which raises non-heme iron uptake from plant foods. Squash seed paste supplies non-heme iron, so a vitamin C source in the same meal is doing measurable work. The effect is meal-specific and does not carry over to iron eaten hours later.
