Corydalis alkaloids such as tetrahydropalmatine are cleared largely by hepatic CYP enzymes, and piperine inhibits several of those alongside intestinal efflux transport. Combining the two raises systemic alkaloid exposure. That cuts both ways: it can raise the effect and it can raise the chance of sedation or of interaction with prescription medicines cleared by the same route. Anyone on regular medication should regard this as a caution rather than an upgrade.

Licorice is added to the large majority of classical formulas as a harmonising component, and formulas containing Corydalis are no exception. The pairing is formulation convention, and the licorice caution stands on its own.
