The ginkgo flavone glycosides are glycosylated forms of quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin. Gut microbial and intestinal enzymes cleave the sugars, releasing the aglycones that are then absorbed and conjugated. This means a ginkgo flavone glycoside dose is functionally a delivery vehicle for those three flavonols. Taking supplemental quercetin alongside adds to the same absorbed pool rather than contributing something new.
When a flavonol quenches a radical it becomes a phenoxyl radical itself, and ascorbate can reduce that species back to the parent compound. Nattokinase has documented fibrinolytic activity and ginkgo extract has documented antiplatelet activity through its terpene lactone fraction. The two act at different points in haemostasis, which means the combination is additive rather than redundant. This is a flag rather than a recommendation: the bleeding-risk direction is the reason to note it. No trial has measured the pair in people.
Garlic organosulfur compounds inhibit platelet aggregation in laboratory and human work, and standardised ginkgo extract does the same through a different mechanism. Stacking them is a plausible additive effect on bleeding tendency. It is the sort of combination that shows up unnoticed in a cardiovascular support stack. Flag it before any procedure involving bleeding risk.
The sugar moieties on ginkgo flavone glycosides must be cleaved before absorption, and a substantial share of that hydrolysis is done by gut bacteria carrying beta-glucosidase and rhamnosidase activity. This is why absorption of flavonol glycosides varies between people with different microbiota. Whether adding a specific probiotic strain changes that conversion for ginkgo glycosides has not been measured. The dependence on microbial conversion is established, the intervention is not.
