Ginkgo flavones are supplied as part of a standardised leaf extract that is specified for both its flavone glycoside content and its terpene lactone content. Nobody takes the flavone fraction on its own outside a laboratory. A label naming ginkgo flavones is describing part of a whole extract, and the terpene lactone figure needs to appear alongside it. The two-number specification is what defines the material used across the clinical literature.
Ginkgo's flavonoid fraction resolves to quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin once the attached sugars are cleaved. Adding supplemental quercetin to a ginkgo product adds to that same absorbed flavonol pool. The two are not independent actives stacked together. Anyone counting total flavonol intake should count them as one pool, not two.
A flavonol that has quenched a radical becomes a phenoxyl radical, and ascorbate regenerates it to the parent compound. This recycling is measured in chemical and cellular systems and is why flavonoid and vitamin C pairings appear so often. It has not been shown to change an outcome in people taking the combination. The chemistry is settled. What it means clinically is not.
Ginkgo flavonoids arrive as glycosides and much of the deglycosylation needed for absorption is carried out by gut bacterial beta-glucosidase and rhamnosidase activity. This is one reason flavonol absorption varies substantially between individuals. Whether a specific probiotic strain shifts that conversion for ginkgo flavonoids has not been measured. The dependence is established, the intervention is speculative.
The ginkgolides in standardised ginkgo extract antagonise platelet activating factor, and long chain omega-3 fatty acids shift eicosanoid production toward less aggregatory species. Since the flavone fraction ships inside that extract, the additive platelet effect applies to what a person actually swallows. It becomes relevant around surgery, dental work, and alongside anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication. Raise it with a prescriber rather than working it out afterwards.
Flavonoids from different sources are conjugated by the same UGT and SULT enzyme families in the enterocyte and liver, and that capacity is finite. Stacking several concentrated polyphenol extracts at once means they compete for it, which changes the ratio of free to conjugated material without adding proportionally to what is absorbed. This is a general feature of polyphenol pharmacokinetics rather than a ginkgo-specific measurement. The practical read is that more concentrated extracts in one dose does not scale linearly.
Alpha-tocopherol terminates lipid radical chains inside cell membranes and is regenerated by aqueous-phase reductants, a pool that flavonoids help spare. The two operate in different compartments, which is the case for combining rather than choosing. The network is well described in laboratory systems. It has not been shown to translate into a measured difference in people.

The flavonoid part of ginkgo leaf is mainly made up of sugar-bound forms of three plant flavonols, quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin.
Ginkgo leaf also has biflavones, a structurally different, doubled-up type of flavonoid that standard flavone glycoside testing doesn't count.
These sugar-bound compounds need to have that sugar cut off by gut enzymes or bacteria before the active part can cross into the body.
After absorption these compounds are quickly modified by the body, so what circulates in blood is almost entirely a converted form rather than the free compound.

Worth knowing: the effects people associate with ginkgo are usually credited to the other fraction, the terpene lactones. So a product boasting about its flavone number has not told you much on its own. Ginkgo also contains a rarer group called biflavones that the standard test does not even count.
