Why these belong in the same formula. Each row says what the basis is, from settled biochemistry through to a trial that measured the pair.
Salvia miltiorrhiza constituents interfere with platelet activation, and long-chain omega-3 fatty acids shift eicosanoid production toward less aggregatory species. Stacking them compounds an effect neither one advertises loudly. Anyone on anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, or heading into surgery, needs a clinician to weigh this in.
These two are frequently combined in circulation-focused formulas, which is exactly why the additive bleeding-risk direction deserves stating. The mechanisms are different, so the effects add rather than overlap. This pairing is not a neutral one to assemble at home.
One acts on fibrin breakdown, the other on platelets, so the two hit different points of the same cascade. Commercial circulation blends put them together. Flagging this as an additive interaction is more useful to a reader than presenting it as a benefit.
Garlic's antiplatelet activity is well characterised, and adding a second antiplatelet botanical compounds it. Neither ingredient is dramatic alone at food-level intake. Concentrated extracts of both taken together are a different matter, particularly around any procedure.
Tanshinones are handled by cytochrome P450 enzymes, and curcumin inhibits several of the same isoforms in vitro. Combining them can shift tanshinone exposure in either direction depending on which enzyme dominates. The data here are preclinical, so read it as a caution about co-dosing rather than a dosing rule.
Piperine slows first-pass conjugation in the enterocyte, which raises plasma levels of compounds that are otherwise heavily conjugated. Tanshinones and salvianolic acids both undergo extensive phase II metabolism. Raising exposure raises both the wanted and unwanted effects, so this is not a free upgrade.
Tanshinone IIA dissolves in oil rather than water, so a lipid vehicle keeps it in solution through the gut and supports micellar uptake. This is why oil-filled capsules and self-emulsifying systems exist for this class. It affects the tanshinone fraction only, not the water-soluble salvianolic acids.
Salvianolic acid B carries multiple catechol groups that darken and degrade on exposure to oxygen and alkaline pH. Ascorbate in the formulation slows that oxidation and preserves assayed content. This is a stability argument about the product rather than a claim about what happens in the body.

It is the dried root of a Chinese sage, known as danshen. Depending on whether it is extracted with water or alcohol you get two quite different sets of compounds from the same plant.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
The dried root and rhizome of a perennial sage native to China and Japan, cultivated principally in Shandong, Shaanxi and Sichuan. The root is harvested in autumn from plants two or more years old.
Roots are washed, sun-dried or oven-dried, then sliced. Drying conditions influence how much salvianolic acid survives.
The solvent choice determines the product: water for salvianolic acids, ethanol for tanshinones, and sequential extraction for a dual-fraction product.
