Scurfy pea seed carries meroterpene phenolics, bakuchiol chief among them, which quench radicals and are themselves oxidised in the process. Ascorbate can return oxidised phenoxyl radicals to the parent phenol, so the two behave as a redox couple rather than as two independent antioxidants. This is bench chemistry, not a measured clinical outcome in people taking the pair.
