What Baikal Skullcap actually does.

Baicalin has a sugar attached and doesn't absorb well in that form. Gut bacteria remove that sugar to release baicalein, which then crosses into the body. This step is why the same dose gives different blood levels in different people.

Once absorbed, baicalein quickly gets a sugar group added back on by liver and intestine enzymes. So it cycles between free and attached forms, and a total blood flavonoid measurement overstates how much is actually present as the free form.

Baicalein has a chemical arrangement that lets it bind metals like iron and copper. This metal-binding is a direct chemical property, separate from its ability to neutralize reactive molecules.
