It is scraped off rock faces in high mountains, not grown or made in a factory. Because it comes straight out of the ground, the cleaning steps matter more than usual: it is dissolved in warm water, filtered several times to remove grit and plant debris, and then tested for heavy metals. After that it is either boiled down to the sticky traditional resin or dried into a powder for capsules.
