Suits runners, lifters and anyone deep in a heavy block who wants a faster turnaround. It's also taken in the evening for sleep quality.

Post-exercise recovery has a substrate limb and a stress-response limb, and these two ingredients sit on different limbs. Whey supplies leucine and the full amino acid pool that muscle protein synthesis needs. Tart cherry anthocyanins have been studied against markers of muscle damage and soreness after eccentric work. The pairing is mechanistically sensible but has not been tested head to head against either component alone.

Sour Cherry + MelatoninTart cherry naturally contains melatonin, so a combined product delivers the same molecule from two sources and doses can stack unintentionally.

Montmorency cherry contains measurable native melatonin, which is one of the mechanisms proposed for its use in evening products. Adding a melatonin supplement on top means both are contributing to the same receptor pool. The native amount in a serving of juice is far smaller than a typical melatonin capsule, so the supplement dominates. Worth knowing when someone assumes the cherry is doing the sleep work.

Sour Cherry + Curcumin (turmeric)Both are polyphenol preparations studied against post-exercise soreness and muscle damage markers, with different chemical classes acting on overlapping pathways.

Tart cherry anthocyanins and curcuminoids have each been examined in the recovery setting, and they are chemically unrelated. Combining them is a reasonable stacking of polyphenol classes rather than a duplication. Neither the combination nor its dose ratio has been tested. Both are markers-and-soreness stories, not performance-outcome stories.

Sour Cherry + Beetroot extract (nitrates)Different mechanisms in the same use case: nitrate acts on nitric oxide availability and exercise economy while cherry polyphenols act on post-exercise recovery markers.

Beetroot nitrate is a during-exercise story about oxygen cost and efficiency. Tart cherry is largely an after-exercise story about soreness and damage markers. Stacking them targets two different windows rather than doubling one effect. One caution is that both are sometimes claimed to raise nitric oxide, and only the nitrate side has a defined pathway for that.

Sour Cherry + Vitamin CAscorbate regenerates oxidised anthocyanin and flavonoid radicals in solution and stabilises anthocyanin colour, a well-described chemistry of these pigment classes.

Anthocyanins and ascorbate interact directly in aqueous systems, with ascorbate regenerating oxidised phenolic species and helping hold anthocyanin colour. That chemistry is solid in solution and in the food matrix. Whether it changes anything measurable in a person taking both has not been shown. There is a formulation caveat too: at high concentration and low pH the ascorbate and anthocyanin relationship can run the other way and accelerate pigment loss over shelf life.

Sour Cherry + QuercetinSour cherry naturally carries quercetin glycosides alongside its anthocyanins, so the two share the same absorption and conjugation route.

Quercetin is a native constituent of the cherry, not an outside addition, and both it and the anthocyanins are deglycosylated then conjugated by the same intestinal UGT and SULT enzymes. Adding a high-dose quercetin supplement loads that same conjugation capacity. The practical effect is on the shape of plasma metabolite curves rather than on any outcome. Worth flagging as a direction, not as a benefit.

Sour Cherry + ProbioticsAnthocyanins are extensively metabolised by colonic bacteria into phenolic acids, and the resulting metabolites are what circulate at meaningful concentrations.

Very little intact anthocyanin reaches systemic circulation. What does circulate is largely microbial breakdown products such as protocatechuic acid and other small phenolic acids. That means gut microbial composition sits between the dose and the exposure, and it varies widely between people. No specific probiotic strain has been shown to improve that conversion in a controlled way, so this is a mechanism worth knowing rather than a product recommendation.

Sour Cherry + MagnesiumStandard formulation pairing in evening and recovery products, combining a mineral base with the botanical component.

Magnesium and tart cherry is a common architecture in evening recovery formulas. The two work on unrelated systems and there is no evidence of an interaction between them. The combination is product convention. Each ingredient should be judged on its own dose.

Caffeine is an adenosine receptor antagonist with a half life around five hours in most adults, so an afternoon dose is still active at bedtime. Where Sour Cherry comes from.

Sour cherries are pressed for juice, the stones taken out, and the juice boiled down gently under vacuum so the colour compounds survive. Some makers go further and strip out just the pigments for capsules. If you want to match what the studies used, look at how much anthocyanin is in a serving, not how many cherries the label claims.

Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
