Limonene rich citrus oils autoxidise readily at the terpene double bonds, and tocopherols are the standard chain breaking antioxidants added to slow that during storage.
Rosemary carnosic acid and carnosol are widely used to stabilise citrus oils, intercepting the peroxyl radicals that would otherwise turn limonene into off flavour carvone and oxides.
Citrus oils are emulsified with gum arabic, whose protein rich arabinogalactan fraction adsorbs at the oil and water interface and forms the wall around the droplet on spray drying.
Maltodextrin is the usual co-wall carrier with gum arabic in spray dried citrus oil powders, giving a glassy matrix that holds the volatile terpenes in and keeps oxygen out.
Cold-pressed tangerine oil is almost entirely terpene hydrocarbon and does not disperse in water. A medium-chain triglyceride carrier dissolves it and lets a small volume be dosed accurately into a softgel or a liquid. The carrier changes the delivery, not the chemistry of the oil itself.
Phospholipids from sunflower lecithin act as an emulsifier that keeps citrus oil dispersed in an aqueous base rather than separating out as a ring at the surface. This is why beverage and liquid supplement formats pair the two. The lecithin contributes no aroma of its own.
D-limonene, the dominant constituent of tangerine oil, autoxidises on exposure to air and light into limonene hydroperoxides and carvone. Tocopherols interrupt that lipid chain oxidation and are the standard stabiliser added to citrus oils for this reason. The role is protective of the ingredient, not a benefit to the person taking it.
Ascorbate sits in the water phase of an emulsion and regenerates oxidised tocopherol back to its active form at the oil-water interface. In a beverage carrying citrus oil the two are often used together for that reason. The effect is on shelf stability of the oil phase.
Citrus and mint volatiles are combined in flavour systems because the terpene profiles cover different parts of the aroma range and neither dominates the other at low inclusion. Both are dosed at flavouring levels. The pairing is a flavour decision, not a physiological one.

Cold-pressed tangerine peel oil is dominated by d-limonene, typically over 85 percent of the oil, with gamma-terpinene, myrcene and small amounts of oxygenated compounds such as linalool and decanal carrying most of the aroma.
D-limonene is a lipophilic monocyclic monoterpene with essentially no water solubility, which is why the oil requires an emulsifier or a lipid carrier in any aqueous format.
On exposure to oxygen, light and heat, limonene autoxidises to limonene hydroperoxides and carvone, which is the chemical basis for the loss of the fresh citrus note in aged oil.
Cold-pressed citrus peel oils carry small quantities of oxygenated coumarins and furanocoumarins from the peel, and the amount depends on the citrus species and whether the oil has been further distilled or fractionated.
Where Tangerine Oil comes from.
Tangerine oil is squeezed out of the fruit peel, cold, while the fruit is being juiced. The oily liquid is spun away from the water, chilled to drop out waxes, and sometimes distilled to make the flavour stronger and longer-lasting. It is used at flavouring levels, so a serving carries very little of it.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
The flaveedo of tangerine or mandarin fruit, collected as a by-product stream of juice production rather than harvested on its own.
Oil glands in the peel are ruptured mechanically, usually by scarification or by pressing the whole fruit, and the released oil is washed out with water into an oil-water emulsion. No heat and no solvent are involved.
Centrifuges split the oil from the aqueous phase, and chilling precipitates waxes and other non-volatiles that are then filtered out.
Where a more stable or more concentrated flavour is wanted, part of the limonene hydrocarbon fraction is removed under vacuum. This produces a folded oil with a different composition from the cold-pressed starting material.
Gas chromatography confirms the constituent profile against the species specification, since mandarin, tangerine and orange oils are chemically close and adulteration is checked at this step.
