Aromatic turmerone is the main sesquiterpene of turmeric essential oil and raises the amount of curcumin appearing in circulation, which is the basis of oil-plus-curcuminoid extracts. It acts on absorption and clearance rather than adding curcuminoid content.
High-absorption turmeric preparations are built by adding back the essential oil fraction that carries ar-turmerone. Supplying the two together reproduces the intended full-spectrum ratio.
Piperine slows the glucuronidation that clears curcuminoids, while turmeric oil acts earlier on solubilisation and uptake. Because the steps differ, the two absorption aids are not redundant.
