Ascorbate sits in the aqueous phase and phenolics such as curcumin sit at membrane interfaces, and ascorbate can reduce phenoxyl radicals back to the parent phenol in vitro. The chemistry is settled; whether it translates into a measurable difference from a supplement pairing in people has not been shown. Regard this as mechanistic overlap only.
