Willow bark supplies salicin, which is converted to salicylate by gut microbes and hepatic metabolism. Because salicylate affects platelet function, a blend carrying it warrants attention in anyone already on a platelet-affecting regimen. Where Cat's Claw Vine comes from.
The bark from inside the vine's stem is stripped, dried and either ground up or soaked in water or alcohol to pull out its active compounds. The liquid is then dried into a powder and tested so each batch carries a stated amount of the marker compounds. Which solvent is used changes what ends up in the powder.
Made from a plant. What ends up in the capsule tracks the harvest, so batch testing and a stated marker matter more here than with a made molecule.
Bark is stripped from the woody liana, usually from mature stems. Harvest method matters commercially because the plant is wild-collected across the Amazon basin and species substitution with Uncaria guianensis is a documented identity risk.
Bark is dried to a stable moisture level and milled. This is the end point for the powder material.
Milled bark is extracted with water alone or with an ethanol and water mixture. The solvent choice sets which constituents carry through: water favours the polar glycosides, ethanol pulls more of the alkaloid fraction.
The extract liquor is filtered clear and concentrated under vacuum, then dried to a powder, often onto a carrier such as maltodextrin or rice flour.
The dried extract is assayed, commonly for total oxindole alkaloids and sometimes for the pentacyclic and tetracyclic split, then adjusted with carrier to hit the declared percentage.
