Infinergy is dicaffeine malate, roughly three quarters caffeine by weight bound to malic acid. Stacking it with anhydrous caffeine adds directly to one total caffeine dose rather than supplying a second mechanism, so the amounts must be summed.
The malate salt dissociates in the gut and releases free caffeine, which then blocks adenosine A1 and A2A receptors exactly as any other caffeine source does. Two caffeine sources in one formula are one pharmacological load.
