Ginkgo increases microvascular perfusion through flavone glycoside and ginkgolide action, while ginsenosides act on nitric oxide release and on central cholinergic tone. The ginseng plus ginkgo cognitive pairing is one of the oldest in the category.
Ginsenosides Rb1 and Rb2 are largely inactive until gut bacteria deglycosylate them to compound K, which is the form that actually enters circulation. The microbiome is therefore part of the delivery route, not an accessory.
Licorice is the classical harmonising root placed alongside panax ginseng, moderating the stimulating edge of the saponins. Glycyrrhizin also acts as a natural surfactant that improves saponin solubility in a water extract.

Loading both at high dose can saturate shared conjugation. Tannins in green tea can also bind saponins in solution, which affects a liquid formulation. The direction is competitive and the size is unquantified.
Standardised ginseng is used for daytime alertness support and melatonin is a circadian signalling molecule taken in the evening. Combining them in one product works against the timing logic of both.
