Both come from Bacillus subtilis natto fermentation, and MK-7 is the cofactor for gamma-carboxylation of the clotting factors, so it acts in the opposite direction to nattokinase's fibrinolytic effect. Purified nattokinase preparations are usually MK-7 depleted for that reason, and the two doses should be declared separately.
EPA competes with arachidonic acid at cyclooxygenase and lowers thromboxane A2 production, which reduces platelet aggregation. Combined with nattokinase's effect on fibrin breakdown, the two act on different steps of one sequence and the effects add.
Ginkgolide B antagonises platelet-activating factor, so platelet aggregation is damped at the same time nattokinase is acting on fibrin. This is settled pharmacology and a known formulation caution.
Garlic organosulfur compounds reduce platelet aggregation through thromboxane and calcium signalling, adding to nattokinase's separate action on fibrin.
Curcumin inhibits thromboxane synthesis and platelet activation, so a high-absorption curcumin alongside nattokinase compounds effects at two separate points in normal clotting.
Alpha-tocopherol at higher intakes inhibits protein kinase C in platelets and antagonises vitamin K-dependent carboxylation, both of which push in the same direction as nattokinase.
Salicin is metabolised to salicylate, which inhibits platelet cyclooxygenase, so platelet function and fibrin breakdown are affected at once.
Systemic enzyme blends combine proteolytic enzymes taken away from food so they are absorbed rather than spent on dietary protein. Bromelain also has its own action on fibrin and platelet aggregation, so the effects on normal clotting add.
Serrapeptase is the other standard proteolytic enzyme in circulatory enzyme blends, and both need an empty stomach and enteric protection to reach circulation intact.
Lumbrokinase is a fibrinolytic enzyme complex acting on the same substrate as nattokinase, so combining them stacks two doses of one activity rather than adding a distinct one.
Gingerols inhibit thromboxane synthase and reduce platelet aggregation, adding to nattokinase's separate fibrinolytic action.
Pine bark procyanidins reduce platelet reactivity, so the combination stacks on normal clotting alongside nattokinase's action on fibrin.
A four-month randomised trial paired nattokinase with a Monascus (red yeast rice) preparation and reported changes in blood lipid measures in adults. Because both were given together, the result belongs to the combination and cannot be split between the two. Blood lipids are markers, not clinical outcomes.
Nattokinase is a protein, and proteins are unfolded by gastric acid and cleaved by pepsin. Deliberately acidifying the stomach with betaine hydrochloride at the same time works against an uncoated nattokinase dose. Products that expect the enzyme to arrive intact use an enteric coating for this reason.
Pepsin is an acid-active protease that cleaves dietary protein, and nattokinase is itself a dietary protein once swallowed. Taking a pepsin supplement alongside an uncoated nattokinase capsule gives the enzyme a shorter life in the stomach. This is chemistry, not a trial finding.
Pancreatin supplies trypsin and chymotrypsin, which cleave proteins in the small intestine. Nattokinase released from an enteric capsule enters the same compartment those proteases work in. The practical read is that co-dosing a broad protease blend is not neutral for an enzyme meant to survive intact.
Quercetin dampens platelet aggregation in laboratory work, and nattokinase acts on fibrin in the same broad space. Stacking two agents that both nudge clot dynamics is worth flagging rather than assuming it is neutral. A 2025 review names supplements of this class alongside their bleeding risk when combined.
Resveratrol inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro at concentrations used in laboratory work. Combined with a fibrinolytic enzyme the two act at different points of the same process, so the additive direction is predictable even without a combination trial. Anyone already on an anticoagulant or antiplatelet regimen should raise the stack with their prescriber.
Proanthocyanidins from grape seed reduce platelet activation in laboratory assays. No trial has tested the pair with nattokinase. The combination is listed here as an additive direction to be aware of, not as a benefit claim.
CoQ10 and nattokinase appear together in circulation-support formulas because they act on different things: mitochondrial electron transport on one side, fibrin on the other. No combination trial was identified. The pairing is a formulation convention with separate rationales, not a demonstrated synergy.
Dietary nitrate is reduced by oral bacteria to nitrite and then to nitric oxide, which relaxes vessel walls. That is an independent route from anything nattokinase does. Stacked, the two can move blood pressure readings further than either alone, which matters for anyone already on blood pressure medication.

Taurine supports normal vascular tone and calcium handling in cardiac and smooth muscle. It is a common companion in circulation formulas that also carry nattokinase. No combination study was identified, so this is a mechanism-level pairing only.
Ascorbate protects tetrahydrobiopterin, the cofactor endothelial nitric oxide synthase needs to stay coupled. That supports normal endothelial function independently of anything a fibrinolytic enzyme does. The pairing is complementary in target, untested as a combination.
Nattokinase is made by Bacillus subtilis var. natto, a spore-forming organism that also appears in probiotic products in its own right. Whole natto delivers both the enzyme and the live organism; a purified enzyme extract delivers only the enzyme. The distinction is worth making on a label rather than assuming one implies the other.

Nattokinase is a serine protease produced by Bacillus subtilis var. natto during soybean fermentation, and in laboratory assays it cleaves fibrin directly rather than working only through plasminogen activation.
Potency is declared in fibrinolytic units (FU) rather than milligrams, because the assay measures enzyme activity against a fibrin substrate and two products of identical weight can carry different activity.
As a protein, nattokinase is denatured by gastric acid and cleaved by pepsin, which is why oral products are commonly enteric coated and why dosing context matters.
The same fermentation that produces the enzyme also produces menaquinone-7, so whole natto carries vitamin K2 while purified nattokinase preparations may have most of it removed during processing.
Where Nattokinase (2000 FU) comes from.
It starts as the sticky Japanese fermented soybean dish. The bacteria that make natto also make this enzyme, and manufacturers wash it out of the beans, clean it up and measure how active it is before putting it in a capsule that is built to survive stomach acid.
Built by fermentation, the same way vitamin B12 and many amino acids are made at scale. Controlled conditions, consistent output.
Whole soybeans are soaked, steamed and cooled to a temperature the culture tolerates.
The inoculated beans are held warm for roughly a day while the organism secretes the extracellular protease along with menaquinone-7 and the characteristic polyglutamic acid strands.
The enzyme is washed out of the ferment into water, since it is secreted rather than held inside the cells.
Cells, bean solids and much of the menaquinone-7 are separated out; how much K2 remains depends on the process, which is why some products declare K2 removal.
The concentrate is assayed against a fibrin plate and diluted with carrier to a declared FU per capsule, so activity rather than mass is what the label sells.
